POWER
In the event that the main grid power supply should fail instant UPS systems
will kick in to maintain power. There are 3 UPS systems in use. The UPS systems
can maintain the Data Center for a guranteed 17 Minutes of uptime. In the event
of the 3 UPS system failing there is also a fourth backup UPS system with Gel
Units for guranteed reliability.
In the event that the Mains grid should fail for more than a couple of minutes
on the roof there are 5 x 16 cylinder diesel engine generators which will
automatically take the load over from the UPS systems within 15 seconds of being
started. These will power all systems including Servers, Cooling and Network
connectivity.
Onsite there is a reservoir of over 50,000 litres of diesel which is enough to
run the data center for roughly a whole day. If in the event the power should be
disrupted for longer there is also a contract in place to deliver further fuel
within an hour of its request so the redundant power can remain active for very
long periods of time.
COOLING
As you can imagine a room full of servers can very quickly heat up. The data
center is cooled to a Nuclear Power Stations requirements using the HVAC system.
Each cooling room contains 5 or 6 cooling units with full reduancy, if any
cooling system should fail the other systems will take the load to keep the
rooms cool and prevent heat build up maintaining a constant temp.
FIRE SAFTEY
Fire poses a real risk to servers especially with the heat they generate. The
Data Center houses a state-of-the-art Argon extinguishing system. This system is
activated by ionisation particals which precedes imminent flame.
If set off the Fire Saftey System will spray non-toxic Argon gas which will
sufficate the fire putting it out instantly without any damage to the equipment.
After such an event the air conditioning system will be re-opened to let out all
the Argon gas with no harm to the environment.
SECURITY
The Data Center has over 150 CCTV Camera monitored 24/7/365 capturing every
single corner of the center and watching all activity.
To enter the data center there is a locked security door first that will only
unlock to a valid keycard. Once unlocked the person must then enter a secure
airlock that only allows one person at a time. Once in the security lock
authorisation is checked via a weighing station which is checked against the
employees records, At the same time a visual check is also carried out with
facial reconition software to identify the employee entering.
Only after all of the above checks have been passed will the inner door made of
re-inforced glass will unlock.
NETWORK
All communications are redundant with two manufactures of hardware and in the
event of one manufacters hardware all failing the network will remain active.
This also allows for hardware to be upgraded and replaced without any noticeable
disruptions.
CONNECTIVITY
Industry-leading 130GBps Connectivity allows for very fast transfer rate to and
from the data center. The Data center is connected to major backbones to the
internet in different countries providing fast web access from all over the
world.
